What's up? Welcome back to eight people in the group chat. I'm Yola Gilliam.
Speaker 2:I'm your girl Lene Johnson, or Lene, if you ask some of my friends or Siri.
Speaker 1:Who are some of these friends? I want to know.
Speaker 2:So I'm laughing because I, siri, really does say like if you say call Lene, it will say Lene. And so it was some years ago my friend Dee, who I worked with. She literally was the first person to legit start calling me Lene, and so I told her I was like Dee. I sent her a message when we were chatting through DM and I was telling her how I always think about her when I do the introduction, because I always say or AKA Lene to some of my friends, and so she just died laughing.
Speaker 1:She was like.
Speaker 2:Oh my God, lene, I just love you and I was telling my friend Jazz about this. She was like girl. I am so glad you told me that she was like, because I'm telling you, I swear, every time I say call Lene, it says calling Lene. So it is hilarious Siri really does call me Lene. So, yes, so I'm your girl, lene Johnson, or Lene, as some of you all may know me, and also Siri. We are back for another wonderful episode to talk about what we talk about. Yes, yeah, so how's your week?
Speaker 1:My week has been pretty good. I have been looking at our stats so I want to say thank you to our listeners and our social media followers. We've got folks all up and down the East Coast. We're trying to branch out West. We got from everybody, from Florida and Georgia up to Connecticut and New Hampshire. We even have somebody in. Germany listening to us, so that is pretty cool.
Speaker 2:Shout out to the global listener International. Yes.
Speaker 1:We are, so remember to like, download us, follow us, rate us, so other people can find us and listen.
Speaker 2:Yes, wherever you listen to your favorite podcast, please download and listen to us. But we also do have listeners on the West Coast too. Now California, San Diego and LA yes, All right, bring on the West Coast.
Speaker 1:Thank you all. We appreciate the support. We were having a blast doing this and we're glad that people are listening and enjoying it.
Speaker 2:Yes, I love doing this because I love to talk. Funny story is, I've always loved to talk, that's just. I mean, even since I was little, my parents would go to what do you call them? Parent-teacher conference. They would be like, oh, lene is such a wonderful student, she's making A's and B's. And it would start off by saying but there's one problem that we're having in particular, and they would say, well, what is it? Well, you know, lene likes to talk, and so we have to, kind of like, sit her, you know, in the front or in the back or on the side. She's always talking. So, as you use it, progress. They say, oh, lene is doing such a good job in class, she's such a pleasure to teach, she's so, oh my God, she's wonderful. There's one thing, though we have a problem with my parents. They say we know, we know she talks, she talks. There's nothing that we can do, she just is a talker.
Speaker 1:She's always going to talk.
Speaker 2:Yeah, what's she had to Kathy? But so, yeah, I love doing this because I love to talk.
Speaker 1:So it works, you're good at it too. I will say I was telling you before we started recording that I usually like I listen to us, we do edit, but you know we listen a lot of times but we don't sit down and listen as just regular listeners to enjoy it. And I had that opportunity earlier this week and I was like, oh my gosh, we sound so good.
Speaker 2:Me too, don't we Fran?
Speaker 1:We do, and not like we didn't think we did it, but to hear it, just being able to listen, without any work involved, was a lot of fun, and I'm really proud of us, so yay.
Speaker 2:I am too.
Speaker 1:Yay, us team, us team eight people in the group chat, speaking of our eight people, shout out to Casey it is January 11th when we're recording. Today is her birthday. She's kicking off her chapter 45. So, hello, dear, we love you. Oh, my goodness, 45. It's that year. It's that year, man, oh man, you're welcome. We've been gracing y'all with our presents for 45 years.
Speaker 2:Would it be 45 wonderful years or no? That's going too far.
Speaker 1:It has been 45 years, filled with all the things that life brings.
Speaker 2:Ups and downs, ebbs and blows.
Speaker 1:I think we are grateful to still be on this planet doing things, but life has life at times.
Speaker 2:Life has life, life is still life and life will continue to life.
Speaker 1:Yes, that is the only constant in this whole thing. The only constant. So yeah, all right. So what you got? Because you know I get nervous. This is the only time I get nervous, because I never know what the topic is. Well, what is it?
Speaker 2:Well, you know, hold on. I kind of wanted to talk about, you know, greetings and salutations first. I just wanted to see how your week was going. You're going anything interesting, anything fun? No, yes, maybe so.
Speaker 1:I like I said, this week has been kind of crazy. I think most of us have had some winter weather or some crazy weather. On Tuesday that just passed there was a lot of rain, tornadoes and those kind of things. So we just kind of been going with the flow of that. That changed some schedules for us with my school age kid he's 15, but we are still obviously very involved in how he gets to and fro. And we took the other one back. Y'all saw I shared that tire picture because that did come to our minds when we went to take him back to school. So we've just kind of been moving this week to kind of get back in the groove of things with A little moving and shaking yeah, I like it.
Speaker 1:What about you?
Speaker 2:Well, on Monday I took my notary class Woo-hoo, congratulations. Thank you, huh. Took my notary class, and all day. Because you could either do online, but it was broken up into two days. So you would do maybe a Tuesday or Wednesday from 6 to 9 30 PM, or you could just do one full day from 9 to 5. So I opted to do the full day. So I did it Monday from 9 to 5. It was a really really good class. Shout out to my instructor, becky Sayer. She was really good, I liked her and passed the test. Yes, yes, yes, yes.
Speaker 1:I knew you would.
Speaker 2:And passed the test. So during that crazy weather I was trying to go get certified, check and drop the application in the mail, just send it to the Secretary of State. And yeah, it was crazy out there, but yeah, so that was what my week has been filled with that and studying for my security plus certification, and yet no, but what you brings me to the time Living and learning, living and learning. But that never stops, which brings me to the topic for today. Perfect little segue. Let's talk about dreams Like what is one of your dreams, or some of your dreams?
Speaker 1:Oh, you like that, I do like that. But so here I'm hesitant, and I guess you can hear that I am hesitant. Why I?
Speaker 2:hear it, I hear the hesitation in your brain.
Speaker 1:Yes, so I say a lot of things here on this podcast. That's one I don't know that I want to put out there. So I'm trying to think of dreams that I am willing to share out loud with others, and I know that sounds strange, but sometimes I feel like and not you when I say this the world cannot be trusted with your dreams, that's when people know too much they.
Speaker 1:They they try to sabotage, even if subconsciously or unconsciously they try to sabotage. So I am always very hesitant. I am definitely one of those people that I'm going to do all the things I'm going to do, and then you're going to find out about them, like you're rarely going to find out if you're not in my inner circle what's moving and shaking before it's a thing, and so I am a little bit hesitant to kind of talk. So I'm going to. This is not a superficial dream, but it is not one where I would be concerned. People can. So I just like at this point, I think one of my dreams is to be able to find a how can I say this? Find an opportunity to finish writing that great American novel that I started years ago.
Speaker 2:A novel, have an author.
Speaker 1:Yeah, so that's one of my dreams to actually complete that and have it published one day.
Speaker 2:Love it Love it.
Speaker 1:What about you and how do you feel about sharing your dreams? I know.
Speaker 2:I kind of feel like you because you know how people are. But I do have a couple of dreams, one, I think I share it with you. This is as of recent. I would love to do voiceover.
Speaker 1:Like audio.
Speaker 2:Yes, I would love to do that, like some commercials or some audible books. I would love to do that. But I guess my one of my big dreams is actually to get a corporate, like you know, with the whole notary thing, do that they go consulting with tech, computer issues. That and I honestly would love. I know this is going to sound morbid, I know this is going to sound morbid, but I would love to have my own cemetery. I know, close your mouth.
Speaker 1:Like what? No, my mouth is not open. Like, that is as far as a business venture, that is, one that you will definitely see the returns on, like, unfortunately, that's something we all need, I don't know. Yeah, I think that is a pretty good journey, a business journey, I mean. Well, I say that based on what I think that you're using this for. I don't so based on just business aspect. Yes, now, depending on what you plan to do in this cemetery, I might have to open my mouth.
Speaker 2:You figure that's one of those things that You're always going to need, because people are constantly dying on a daily basis. Yeah, it's not that much overhead. I mean, what do you do? You have to get a grave digger, keep your grounds looking good, so you would need a landscaper. But for the most part, people are always going to be coming to you because, unfortunately, the day is going to come where we're going to us or a family member may pass away, and I just think that's one of my dreams that I would love to do.
Speaker 1:So do you want just the cemetery or do you want the actual business, like the whole funeral home, to be a mortician?
Speaker 2:and a family member. I would love to be a mortician, I would, but no, I don't want that. I would like to have a crematory where I would cremate, but I don't want to do the whole. You know the funerals and you know I could cremate and you know the burial piece, but not so much. Yeah. But you know, I think I really could be a mortician now Because you think about it. You have nobody giving you lip.
Speaker 1:Because I don't know, I don't know a lot about that. I have lost some folks, but other folks have been in charge of that aspect of it. But I don't, I guess I can't imagine that grieving families might be going through a lot and I feel like you will be getting some lip from someplace. I mean, unless you are dealing literally just with the deceased and none of their grieving loved ones.
Speaker 2:But I mean, like you know, if I did like their makeup or whatever, because I would do that too, you, you don't. I mean what are they going to say? Oh, I don't like it. I mean I guess maybe the family members would say that, but for the most part, when you're dealing with not so much the family but the actual deceased, I mean you know what better person to work with? They can't talk. I mean, you know.
Speaker 1:That is true. Let's hope they cannot talk.
Speaker 2:I hope they look, if they start talking, they can have everything done. You can have it, but yeah, so that's. That's, that's one. That's a couple of things that I would like to do, but yours is really good. Have you been so? When you do the book, is this something that you work on? How often do you work on it? I should say, is it something that, whenever it hits you, you jot a couple of lines down and do you do it by a chapter, or you just make notes and then you compile it.
Speaker 1:I have a lot of notes. I use dabbled so it organizes all this stuff for me, and I have I've probably written it and rewritten it a number of times over the years. I've just don't have anything that I have been ready to show other people. Ok, it's usually when I like I keep notepads and journals and things around anyway, and I got notes I write, you know I do, I do all that stuff all the time anyway. So sometimes I'll just like pick up my pen and write long hand something out and then go back and like add it to the you know types document kind of thing, just because I've had a thought or something has happened that triggered something that I feel like could be a good part of a plot or something.
Speaker 2:I like that. I like that, and would you ever want to make it into a movie? Would that be a or no, you would not even be interested in that. You know how the movie on Netflix and my girl, zoe, I think her name is, who played in. You know she went to Italy and she married her husband. Did you ever watch that movie? The series.
Speaker 1:Erica Ash in that movie.
Speaker 2:Erica Ash, let's see oh no, I know what you're talking about. Erica Ash is not.
Speaker 1:I think you're talking about the one, oh, yes, from scratch, or something like that. Yes, yeah, from scratch.
Speaker 2:That is the movie.
Speaker 1:Oh my gosh, that was so good and I think, do we talk about this or am I having a very strange day? I've that. I then went down the rabbit hole because one of the sisters is also an author and so she had written a series of books, so I started reading those. We're going to have to. I'm going to have to look into that and so we can talk about it with some intention, because I did enjoy that movie very much, I did enjoy the books that I read very much and just kind of like learning more, a little bit more about their sisterhood.
Speaker 2:Would you like to do it like that, a book like that where it initially was a book and then it turned into a series? Would that be of interest to you?
Speaker 1:Depending on how much control and say I had and how they interpret the vision I think would. But, of course, opportunity. I would look for opportunity that would allow for this story to reach more people. So, yeah, definitely consider it.
Speaker 1:OK, I think that is wonderful Along the line when we talk about dreams. I do have like three book series that I could get the rights to. I'd love to make into movies or television programs, really, yes. So have you ever read the wedding date? But Jasmine Guillory, no, whose name? I probably should make some saying right, ok, first of all just start reading, start with the wedding date and then just work your way through the series, like I have literally made notes of, like folks to cast in these roles. I love that series. It's really really cute, but also insightful and impactful in ways that make you feel good about yourself.
Speaker 2:And it's called the wedding date. Yes, ok, series, I'm Googling as you talk, give me a little synopsis, well in this, but in.
Speaker 1:So the first book in the series is called the wedding date, and so the series is called the way that they get stuck in an elevator and he is on his way. He is like in the wedding party for his ex, for his ex's wedding, because he is marrying somebody who was a friend.
Speaker 1:And so they get stuck in this elevator and he ends up talking her into coming. Well, ended up asking her to come to the wedding as his date, because the person he was supposed to ring the girlfriend he was supposed to bring they have broken up just before the wedding. So now he's going to his ex's wedding without a date. He is in the wedding party and so, as they are want to do, they fake being in a relationship until they grow into a real one. Oh, but, like I said, that's the start of several other connected stories where these characters come to life.
Speaker 1:And so I really enjoy it.
Speaker 2:I would love to Wait, so they have a move now. They already have a movie called the wedding date. Is this the same?
Speaker 1:Did you know that? But who are the people in this wedding date movie you're talking about? Let's see, is this that you're not talking about? That Deborah Messing movie, are you? Yeah, I think you're talking about. No, you're not talking about the Deborah.
Speaker 2:Messing movie the wedding. Well, okay, the wedding date series by a minute. Hold on, who is in this one? So it appears that in this one it's Dormant Maroney.
Speaker 1:Yeah, maroney, and Nevermessing is the female character. Yes, this is not the same thing. Ok, that movie she he's. He is a professional and she hired to go to her sister's wedding in England. That is a really cute movie too. You should watch it.
Speaker 2:See, is this the young lady who played in leap year? Have you ever seen leap year?
Speaker 1:I have, but this is the girl from the Will and Grace. Oh, yes, when I think of the year. Yes, the sister Amy Adams is in it. Yes, yes, yes.
Speaker 2:OK, all right, I have to check out the wedding day series.
Speaker 1:Well, this is just what I don't know. Oh, the books, yes, no, the book, the book series yeah, do read the books, do watch the movies. Do find me funding to offer if somebody else hasn't already bought the rights to me. I love it. Ok, um content because people would like it. Yeah, I'm interested to check that out. I'm interested to put that out there. Watch somebody else get to it. That's what I said. I don't talk about stuff.
Speaker 2:But you know it would be OK. I think you could do it. I think so. Ok, I can't wait to check that out. This is what I need to talk about. Ok, very burning topic that the world has been talking about For the past week. I'll be the guy yesterday. You already know. No, no, go ahead. Can we not talk about that?
Speaker 1:So oddly enough, we were supposed to record this episode the day after all that happened, so that day I figured we would definitely be talking about it, yeah.
Speaker 2:I don't spend too much time on it but you know just a little. Well, it is his internet now, so it is, and as I go to YouTube just to see how many views it has had thus far, what did you think about it Like? How did you enjoy it?
Speaker 1:Or I probably Watched more than I should Like. I ended up watching the whole thing and I texted several people because and I think I probably texted you when I was there, some other stuff and I was like, oh my goodness, I ended up watching it all the way through. And then I had texted Eric, who had an event that day, so he was working, and when he got home I watched it with him, like parts of it with him too. So I thought Two cats point of like. This is my life, this is my experience. Y'all said these things about me. I am just replying, I'm hitting reply I. It was very entertaining, he is very entertaining and I understand why it broke the internet, as people keep saying. I will also say this it is also very well timed, as we all know cats. Well, we might not all know, but cats about to go on tour.
Speaker 2:We is, and I heard that that he's coming to the Bodger Angles arena, a Coliseum.
Speaker 1:And he's here which are the bow play out in 10 minutes or so I believe it, I believe it and so I think this. And not only was it entertaining, it was a master class in marketing, yeah, and getting your name out there in preparation for some stuff you got going on. So I I've not I've seen a lot of like the internet is filled not only with those clips and it went on for almost three hours. So it's, it's, it's a lot of content.
Speaker 2:Two hours and 46 minutes and five seconds, to be exact, and he has. It has Shout out to.
Speaker 1:Shannon Sharp. Yes, let's have some feelings about him, yes and so. But shout out to him Congratulations to him, because I know like he got a an increased number of followers. Yes, a lot of views.
Speaker 2:I they were even talking about. I was watching Nightcap last night in good feelings. Let me just say that you said oh yes, good feelings. I'm Marish. They have been talking about it. He said on, even on the news.
Speaker 1:They put it everywhere you cannot be on. I'm just call it Cat Williams Internet and not some of it. Yeah, something about it. Everybody, like you, said it is on like mainstream media news outlets.
Speaker 2:It is, it is. I mean, here's the thing when you do something to someone and they come back, be it in person or online, you cannot dictate how they're going to respond Exactly, so you just have to sit in it and say it is what it is, because I feel like if you can dish it, you should be able to receive it and, like everyone has been saying, all of the people who have been calling him out and calling him what all these types of names have yet to say that he was lying.
Speaker 1:Well, that's the thing. There have been a lot of responses, but nobody had been like he told the both of us lie.
Speaker 2:So no, none of them I know he had receipts.
Speaker 2:And let me tell you, um, you know he was talking about Steve Hardy and how he sold his jokes. And when he bought up Mark Curry I was like you know that meme with Wee Bay from the wire. I don't know if you ever watched a wire, but anyway you know how he kind of rubbed his chin like, oh, oh, my God, that meme. If not, I'll send it to you. When he brought up Mark Curry I said yo, like it mirrors each other. I didn't even really think about that until he brought that up. And so, of course, mike, who used to be married to Um, oh, oh, oh, oh the name is on the tip edge of my tongue Um, she comes in a house and lives, she Lena house wife. She's a model. She was Leon's ex fiance. That's a daughter named Noelle.
Speaker 1:Cynthia.
Speaker 2:Cynthia, cynthia's ex husband's podcast, mark Curry was and so um, and surprisingly enough, cynthia and Mike meant on Steve Harvey's show, oh, and that's how they met. But he was saying so you know, you have beef with, uh, Steve, and he's like I don't have beef. He just stole some of my jokes. Well, of course, internet they do what they do and they find receipts. And he had made this joke, mark Curry, some years ago about um Halloween, dressing up in a Halloween costume yes, all that.
Speaker 2:UPS right. And then they showed the clip of when Steve was on his talk show. Wow, he didn't make a joke. You know how you, you're talking to the audience. So he wasn't like he was doing standup, but he was telling the story how you know, when I was young, you know, in talking about Halloween and how told the whole is that joke, but just in a conversation form, and everybody was like, oh you know, tight deal. And I was like they aren't doing their job and coming with receipts. So you know, in the whole they they did one side by side where he had told this joke on comic view um about the spaceship, but he didn't use the spaceship. I think he did a car and then, of course, next to it. So by side they had Cedric's version of it, but Cedric had changed his to a spaceship. So I mean, but let me tell you he was just sitting back in the cut waiting for his time, keeping names and taking notes, but the whole point.
Speaker 1:like he said, you know, if you are going to do somebody that way, you need to be prepared for them to talk about what you did to them. You don't get to be defensive after you have done somebody wrong. No, you don't. And they tell people you did them wrong. I've always had an issue with that, like if don't do people wrong, if you don't want me telling you, you know telling that you've done people wrong.
Speaker 2:Well, look, and here's the ironic. Or should I listen to even the irony? That's the word I want to use. The irony of it all is Tory having hearts. X, Y is now going on tour.
Speaker 1:Or I found it on Instagram yesterday.
Speaker 2:Charlotte is one of the cities where she's coming with him. Well, I said the irony of it all, but you know, you know he has a lawsuit against Tasha Kay. You know the blogger on YouTube. Oh, he didn't take out a lawsuit on Kat, you would think, Hmm, right, interesting. Yeah, I mean, you know, to me I think that's just very telling. Can't sue, can't sue someone if it's true right. So I thought over oh, you know, all in all, it was a, I'm telling you, my, my chest was tight the entire.
Speaker 2:You know, you don't give me heart palpitations when you're like I'm going to need you to stay off the internet and I'm telling you like that's why I never finished power, because I'm telling you, like it, my heart just starts racing and being. I just have to put it on pause. You know stuff that's very I don't know. I don't know I can't, just yeah. But that made my heart tight Like oh my. But I didn't stop it, but I was just like, oh my God, this is crazy. But over and all, I thought it was a. It was good I wanted to get that in because I know we were supposed to talk about that last week. But, um, yeah, go Kat.
Speaker 1:Okay, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah so talking about people doing you wrong and then having to tell somebody about it, or having feelings Not the best segue, but it does. It did actually does make me think about our next topic, which is around current events and internet and stuff. Staying on that, I sent you and I don't know if you had time to watch that a clip from an episode of girlfriends.
Speaker 2:My first girlfriend.
Speaker 1:Okay, now you can't have to take that out. Um, we can't pay for that.
Speaker 2:I can't even sing just that one verse. No, we don't want me. I think her name is Mara, so who was the?
Speaker 1:we don't need her. So I'm gonna shout out to her and Tracy and golden and person and Jill, Marie and Reggie and Khalil, um out that the why can't someone sing?
Speaker 2:but they can sing in an everyday life, you just can't record it.
Speaker 1:Well, we're not monetized, so it's not like we're going to lose anything, but let's just be on the safe side.
Speaker 2:Okay, but you know, I like to have conversations and bust out with song, but I guess I can't do that.
Speaker 1:We don't have that kind of money. So don't. All right, soon Not yet. Soon, soon, soon, soon, we will. Then you got to buy the rights to the songs.
Speaker 2:So okay, so yes, girlfriends. One of my favorite shows by the way.
Speaker 1:Yes, so in this particular clip it's from. It's one of the episodes where Maya was not doing what she's supposed to do. She was having an inappropriate relationship, not fully physical, she did think they did kiss, but she was involved with Stan Stan, crazy Stan, her husband who was not her husband.
Speaker 1:She has a husband. Stan bought her a watch. Darnell, her husband wanted to buy her a watch and had talked to Joan about buying my watch for Christmas. And Maya lied to Darnell when he asked her where she got this very expensive watch and said Joan bought it. And so he was pissed because he had talked to her, talked to Joan about recommendations that she had to buy and he had no recommendations on what kind of watch to get Maya and in his mind she has gone out and bought his wife a better, you know, gift than he can More expensive.
Speaker 2:Yeah, Because it was a comfort watch, right, yeah.
Speaker 1:And so he is pissed and Joan kind of makes picks the worst moment to kind of show up in their space at that moment because they're at the company holiday party and he basically tells her to kiss his tail and a few other choice words and he walks off and she is confused at first but then she recognizes because she is aware of what Maya is doing and it led to a lot of things in the comments. So there's so many questions here, but one of the things in the comments that really drew me in and made me want to have this discussion with you was about one significant other not liking their friends, and because one commenter pointed out she was like this is why a lot of times guys don't like their you know, the woman in their life's friends, because they've been using them as scapegoats and excuses for stuff, and so they have formed this opinion of the friend with either not all the information or false information, and I was like that's, he didn't like her for a long time Because of that.
Speaker 2:No, he did not. He did not. But man do it too. Not that it's right, that's not the point here.
Speaker 1:No, it's not.
Speaker 2:But I just wanted to put that caveat, caveat, out there Lots of people are trash people, we.
Speaker 1:that is a caveat.
Speaker 2:Yes, they are, and let me speak clear.
Speaker 1:So here's the thing and Maya was cheating. She did not have intercourse with a stamp, but she did kiss them. But even if she hadn't kissed him, she was lying to her husband about her whereabouts and things related to their life. And I am a strong believer that cheating is not about sex. Cheating is about lying. So you don't have to have a full out sexual relationship when we grow and that is a real word, sexual relationship with somebody To be cheating on your significant other or your partner. It is infidelity because of the lying. So I totally 1000% agree.
Speaker 2:I totally 1000% agree. I forgot my thought just that quick because it doesn't have to be, like you said, a sexual. It starts in the heart initially, right, because we think about it is in your heart and then you act upon it. So that's usually how things happen. And do you think it's wrong to have a mental affair or a mentally like someone mentally have checked out in a mental cheating?
Speaker 1:Yes, I agree. I mean, people talk about affair, affairs of the heart all the time. I think here's the thing If you are having issues with your partner that leads you to want to engage in any other kind of activity with somebody that is not your partner in a way that would normally be within those confounds, then it is wrong. And I remember it was a Jimmy Carter who said something about having lust in his heart at one point. Yes, like even to that point. If you have feel like you have crossed a boundary and your spouse would not be pleased with this behavior and would not find this your partner would not find this behavior Okay. It ain't okay as it relates to the boundaries in your relationship, and I keep trying to point that out because if y'all have agreements, then that's different. Again, it's always about the boundaries that you all have determined for your relationship.
Speaker 2:Well, and two, I agree with you with two things. How did that person feel that comfortable to be able to do that?
Speaker 1:Obviously, you have definitely let something out that gave them an opening.
Speaker 2:Right, because a person just not going to step to you without Well, that's not saying that, because some people are just that disrespectful.
Speaker 2:Well, no, no, no, no. What I was going to say was without and continue to take it there, without an okay from you, they may try it, but if you shut it down, then they understand okay, this is, I can't go that far, because a person is always going to see, feel you out to see where they can start. You shut it down, okay, and then they come back for more, but you continue to shut it down. But if you say, oh well, you know, and all that, then I said, okay, maybe I can, or whatever the case may be.
Speaker 2:But there was a situation when I always asked this question. I had a male friend, just a platonic friend, who he had cheated on his girlfriend, and so we had a conversation about it and I said, well, she was doing X, y and Z, x, y and Z, so let him finish this bill. And I said, joe Schmo, did she know how this made you feel? No, well, joe Schmo, did you tell her how this made you feel? No, I said so. You cheat on her, but you don't have a communication to you, didn't have, you didn't communicate with her that it was bothering you or you didn't like this. But it's okay for you to cheat on her but not tell her. So she doesn't. She's blind, blindly. She doesn't even know what's going on. Aware that you're upset with her doing this, which is, to me, unfair because you didn't even give a. You didn't even give her a chance to even correct.
Speaker 1:Talk about that. Every time you got to communicate with your partner, you have to.
Speaker 2:You have to, and you know, while we're talking on this, I'm reading some of the comments and which is interesting, not that it makes it right, but one person says Darnell got on my nerves, because I specifically remember that Darnell from the first season who was cheating on Maya, hand feeding, kissing and flirting with his coworker.
Speaker 1:Cecily, who was played by girl, who played Laura on Family Matters. Yes, I remember that episode.
Speaker 2:So not to say that and I agree again, maya was wrong, but how quickly we forget the things that you have done.
Speaker 1:Well, two wrongs don't make the right. No, it does not, it does. Well, one for me, I would be like so, maya, you didn't like it when he did this. Why would you do like you didn't like how he made you feel when he did this? Well, I would you behave in a way you know is going to make him feel some type of way. And if we want if y'all haven't seen these.
Speaker 1:Go watch these episodes. We'll tell y'all in the show notes where a girlfriend is playing, because you should be watching it. But later, when he does discover what's been happening, he is literally built a friendship with this man, because this man is one man, is not right in the head. So he has come down to the rec center and been playing basketball and befriended and befriended and be invited to their home Right. And he talks about how, you know she's made him look like a fool.
Speaker 2:Now I will say he did become a stalker. He was talking. I mean, he became a stalker.
Speaker 1:She put her family in that position and I was really upset, like I said from start to finish, like watching her tell this lie, bringing her friends. Once you, once you tell your friends, your friends are going to make whatever decisions. I don't judge friends for being friends, so we're going to put a pin in that we can talk about how you feel about your friends holding that secret later. But the fact that she had, she lied on Joan to cover her butt, yeah, and so I was like, not only now, you're lying to your husband, you're lying to you know, you're lying to your husband about this fair. You're lying to your husband about your friend. You're lying on your friend. You've brought her into this in a way she didn't want to be in it. I can guarantee you she didn't want to be in it.
Speaker 2:Um, so now you have him upset with Joan for no reason, because you know, right.
Speaker 1:But she got your back. And first of all, let's be honest, this is television. There are a lot of things that are happening, but at the same, freaking time just her boss. So girl.
Speaker 2:Yeah, she, that was just wrong with so many levels Like that's your job.
Speaker 1:You got to lose your husband.
Speaker 2:Like yeah, that's I don't. But I can't remember. Did she ever come out and say that Joan had nothing to do with it?
Speaker 1:She ever do that I cannot remember. So now I'm going to be forced and I use that very lightly because I'm going to enjoy rewatching I'm going to have to rewatch that to see if because I cannot remember if she ever came clean about Joan. Well, maybe she did, because it all came out in that episode when he came to the house.
Speaker 1:That's right, because remember she left all this. So he found out because she had butt dialed him basically Yep, yep, and she was having a conversation with the girls and it was all recorded on his voicemail. So she really never did really come clean. He just found out she had tried to cut it off with Stan, but he was stalking her.
Speaker 2:Yeah, At that point it was it had gone too far. Yes, and again, see, and then you. There's another point to this. You don't know a person's mindset, so you're thinking you're being friendly, not knowing you know how this person is going to take it. And he took it way to the extreme. Now he's stalking her. So you set yourself up for things like that possible.
Speaker 1:Hashtag fatal attraction You're going to get your bunny coils.
Speaker 2:Hashtag snapped. These are things that lead people to do stuff like that. You wonder, oh my goodness, what happened? What stuff like this? So it's just like just keep the lines of communication open.
Speaker 1:And let me tell you something, and I, because I feel like people are nice, we don't judge people. People have all kinds of reasons for doing all kinds of things, so I try not to judge people. But I will tell you this If you have decided that you need to bring, step out on your partner because you're not bringing somebody in, that's a different situation. If you have decided that you need to step out on your partner and engage activities be it mentally, physically, emotionally with somebody else, without thinking through why this is happening, it's always going to be easier with that other person so saying oh, my partner doesn't understand me. Oh, my partner nags me. Oh, I've got this. Of course, it's easy. You ain't got no bills and no responsibilities with this other person, right, that's what it was.
Speaker 1:Y'all just out there living the life. Of course, that is easy. Girls night is always fun, it's always fun.
Speaker 2:Ain't got no bills. And you think about it. You're telling this person oh, I'm having this problem with her or him, and this person is taking it in. So now they know what angle to work it from.
Speaker 1:They know, exactly who they need to be for you. Yes, because you done. Told them all your business when you're not even talking to your partner about it.
Speaker 2:And I guarantee you, you choose to leave your mate and then you're going to have the not the exact same problem, but you're still going to have problems. You are, if not worse problems. So you know the grass. I know it's such a cliche, but the grass may seem greener on the other side, but it never is. It just never.
Speaker 1:Whether you still got to do the work. You got to water it. If we're going to use the grass analogy, you still got to do the work. Well, I think that's the green.
Speaker 2:That's the problem People don't want to do the work. They don't want to do the work, which is why you have situations like this and, of course, other things happen too. But a lot of times when you do have problem because you don't wake up and start having problems and tomorrow you cheat or you divorce, it's been leading up to that. So now, when you see a problem like I said, I've never been married, but when you see a issue, or rising, or you know you're not talking to this person for weeks, or I'm sleeping on the couch, obviously there's a problem. At some point you need to have a communication, have communication, not a communication, but have communication about that Exactly and not let it just fester into something. But that was such a good and just the comments you know, saying how Maya was wrong. It's just funny to see how different viewpoints of how people think. And so the first one, like you said, said it's so called friends, just like this. That's why their man don't like you and you never, and you never did anything.
Speaker 1:That's what you mentioned and you're like I don't know why. And you're like, why are you treating me like that? I don't even know him like that. Yeah, but it's because she been lying, she been using you as an excuse when she out all night long saying you bought her gifts, you know doing all kinds of things. And I was like, not only is that an out okay with your partner to tell that lie, but you lying on me that way. Me, you ain't really my friend, because this is not like oh, I went to dinner with so and so, girl, you know, cover for me. I was buying him a Christmas present. This is, I am lying and cheating and I have made you the culprit in this. I have Sullied your name and your reputation For my own good, and most of the time without even telling you.
Speaker 2:Yeah, because you can see that Joan was very upset and taken aback by that. She should have been Once you know, darnell left after you know having some choice words for Joan. What are you doing? Just don't do stuff like that. I don't do stuff like that. You just don't do stuff like that. But I tell you that is such classic show. Who was your favorite girlfriend? I definitely did not like Maya and those outfits. Really, maya was funny.
Speaker 1:So I will say all of them had their issues. Like I thought everybody should be on somebody's couch and a couple of them were in the end. But I will say this from just a entertainment point of view Tony is that girl.
Speaker 2:That girl will always be that girl. I love Tony.
Speaker 1:Like Antoinette Marie Giles is it.
Speaker 2:Yes, she is. Yes, she is. Joan had her own issue. Joan reminds me of the modern day being Mary Jane.
Speaker 1:Mary Jane, I didn't watch that show Eric did, but I know what you're talking about.
Speaker 2:They self sabotage. Joan was always self sabotage. If you notice, look how many boyfriends she had and she was self sabotage them all. Mary Jane Pope, it's Joan Self sabotage.
Speaker 1:I loved Joan. Now, joan was. Joan is the person we all have, a friend like Joan, we all need a friend like Joan as it relates to who she is. In her friendship, her relationship, she was so. She was so unsure of herself and so unsure of her worth that she, like you said, she well, she put herself one in these relationships, chasing after this magic dream of this one true love. And she then, when it didn't work, like you said, then she just decided not, I'm going to work on this relationship, this relationship that I have, that's good in most of the ways, and fix it in other ways, because nothing, you're not going to get 100% of what you need from any person. We know that. And so, instead of working on those relationships and valuing the good parts of them, which were, I feel like most of them were, above the 80%, when you think about the 80, 20 rule, oh yeah, she was like, well, this ain't my one true love because everything ain't perfect, so I'm just going to blow it up and move on to the next.
Speaker 2:I like you, but you know what. That's what makes we need people like Joan. We need people like Tony, need people like Maya, because that's what makes the world go round. We need people like Joan, I mean people with those type of personalities. Yeah, Because everybody can't be everybody.
Speaker 1:I think all of them see, I think all of them played a crucial role in it. Like, even with Lynn, I felt like she actually kept them grounded. She did and I think and this is going to sound weird sometimes I think they kept her around because sometimes you feel good, feeling like you're better than somebody else. Let's be honest, when you get enough people in a group because I always went so, I do I think everybody kind of played their role, but I do like I feel like Lynn's character growth was what people needed to see when they weren't feeling particularly good about themselves.
Speaker 2:You saw her grow.
Speaker 1:You saw her, learn, you saw her. You saw how she was able to show the other three parts of themselves that they needed to see Right.
Speaker 2:And even though she didn't have a stable place really to stay because she was bouncing between the friends and couch surfing, she always had the most positive attitude. Yeah, you know, you would think someone like that would be. Oh, what was me?
Speaker 1:Well no, if I didn't have any bills, I'd probably be more positive too. Well, now, that's a sure.
Speaker 2:You do make a good point. You do make a good point, but she was just so. She was the girl that would just make you just. If you were having a bad day, lynn, come around. I don't want to see you, lynn. She would stay around and you would just feel better.
Speaker 1:You would, yes, you just would feel better.
Speaker 2:Definitely you would feel better. But I really like Tracy Ellis Ross. She just seems like a cool girl.
Speaker 1:She does.
Speaker 2:She seems like a just in real life, I tell you she is, she, just she is bad. I really like her. I like her. This was, this was good. This was was that one of your favorite shows?
Speaker 1:Oh my gosh, yes, how was it not everybody? One of everybody's favorite shows, and if you've not seen it, watch Girlfriends, like come on now, girlfriend.
Speaker 2:And if you've seen, Blackish, but not Girlfriends.
Speaker 1:There was an episode where she brought the other three actresses in to play her current day friends and Blackish. They were Rainbow's friends, yep, so you'll know. You can put the faces to the names and then go check out Girlfriends.
Speaker 2:And you know what Tony and Molly from? They just remind me so much of each other. Really Insecure, Molly.
Speaker 1:I don't know. Do you mean like, like the actresses physically, or yes, yes, the characters, no, no, not the characters but yes, when I see Tony, I see Molly and vice versa.
Speaker 2:I just do. But you know what I hate? Hate it though.
Speaker 1:I hate it that it didn't work out between Tony and Todd Me too, I was mad at that storyline and I always wondered if something happened in real life that, like one of them needed to leave or do that. And I know that, um, jill Marie ended up not renewing the contract towards the end. But I really liked them together. He, because he didn't put up with her crap. He was he. He grounded her and he was good for her and I thought that they made a good couple and a good team. He really adored her.
Speaker 2:He, I mean, he really, really adored Tony.
Speaker 1:And I think she adored him, which is why it was weird that they broke them up, because she and I all the things that she thought were her type and that she wanted and needed in a relationship. When she met the person that she really fell in love with, it was because he didn't put her on that pedestal. He didn't have those things. It was a genuine connection and they started from a friendship.
Speaker 2:It did, it really did, and I don't know. I just I didn't like how that it just I didn't like how that ended. But do you think always it was kind of like a it for me when she would always thought it was funny. But I will always cringe inside when she would call him and I would joke, joke about his height and I'm like, ooh, is that what we want to do? Like you know, in the beginning it's funny, but like to continuously say that it's like is that how you really feel about me? You remember she used to climb.
Speaker 1:I think she, like when it started off, like you said, it was a joke and it was haha and that's just kind of their banter. But I think and this is going to sound strange I think she did it when things weren't right between them, to kind of harken back to the good old days, so to speak.
Speaker 2:So you think maybe it was kind of like a defense mechanism.
Speaker 1:Yes, and I think that she. It was almost kind of like a reminder of okay, I have made this commitment to this person. I do love this person, even though he on my very last nerve right now. It was almost like their own love language.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:But I will again. I'm willing to rewatch it to see if I feel differently now because, let's be honest, there are a lot of things that we saw in movies and we were going to talk about this, but we'll have to talk about it another time because we're running out of time. But movies and shows that we loved, that we see very differently at this age.
Speaker 2:Yes, that's true, we should do that. Yeah, let's talk about that next episode, because I definitely want to get into that. Yeah, that you definitely see. And look, we could even do a segment on songs, because songs that we heard growing up we look at very differently now songs and shows.
Speaker 1:I don't know that I do that with songs because I knew what those songs meant then. So I'm always surprised when people are just like oh my gosh, is that what that lyric meant?
Speaker 2:Or like people playing certain songs at their weddings that are not love songs, yeah, and not just our generation, our parents' generation, because those songs they just had in you window, they were not so much in your face as now, and they were good.
Speaker 1:They were good, they were still good.
Speaker 2:Yes, and it always alluded to. It's like use your imagination, but I definitely think that was a good subject. But let me ask you this really quickly Did you like living single?
Speaker 1:Why would you ask me that? You know how I love Living St Cole? Oh my gosh, I love Eric Alexander Because I know you loved it Like in ways that I well. I love Kim Fields, I love Eric Alexander. I love Queen Latifah, I love Kim Cole. It's like I follow very few celebrities online Like these are people that I follow TC Carson, john Hinton Like this was that show, was everything Epic, epic it was.
Speaker 2:It was just amazing.
Speaker 1:And I, I just don't. I found out the other day and I'm like I'm not in tears but about it, but I was really kind of irked to find out that TC Carson was fired.
Speaker 2:He talked about that in an interview and before you tell I didn't know about that, tell me what happened.
Speaker 1:I guess basically he had in some kind of ways become the spokesperson for the cast and when they had not even demands but requests and things, it sounds like I'm going to watch the clip again because I don't want to misquote him. I will say he said that he was fired based on, I guess, he would not advise the cast in a certain way, as the producers and folks wanted him to. He did.
Speaker 2:So they would like give him, like they would put something, tell him something, let me, let me rewatch it I don't want to misquote him completely.
Speaker 1:I will just say I was in my feelings to find out that he had been fired.
Speaker 2:Okay, we will find out.
Speaker 1:I will go back, I will find out more. I will go back to that again next time because I don't want to. I don't want to misquote, because I got some feelings around it, so I want to make sure I'm getting it right.
Speaker 2:Okay, yeah, I definitely would, yes, love to hear that. Let me tell you something. In the nineties, early 2000s, like the best shows. Do you remember the show? It was called, oh my goodness, mars Chestnut. Was in it, tati LaBelle.
Speaker 1:Out all night, out all night. The one where the fuck, the one where the fuck yeah.
Speaker 2:I love like we had some great shows back in the day and it always would infuriate me how you would have these great shows and it's just like we're not going to redo their contract. Everybody's watching it, Everybody. Like I said, I never watched one episode of Fritz, ever like ever, and I've seen bits and pieces of it and then I know I never will watch another episode, seeing that they bit living single. That was their judge. So I won't watch an episode of friends. I know some people love friends, but I have some friends.
Speaker 1:There are some funny episodes in France, are they that? And leave it there?
Speaker 2:Yeah, Okay, well, maybe I, maybe I will watch one, but I will never be fanatic of friends, because there's some guy hard, some guy hard fans out there and people. I remember being in school and people would come back and they would, you know, like I don't even know what day it was. They would come back the next day. Did you see friends? And I just would be like, no, I don't watch that. And then I would try to watch it and it just didn't. You know, it didn't move me like Cosby or Martin or different, different world and we will go.
Speaker 1:I won't go down, you know, get on my soapbox about it, but this is again why representation matters.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:We want to see people who look like us in everyday situations. I think one of the things that really bothers me about a lot of stuff and this is why I miss some of those great shows is we are more than trauma and so I like the shows that we like, that we talk about, that you just listed. Those are filled with everyday you know, happenings, joy, love, you know, and I think it is important for people to be able to see that. Like you put on a show and expect people who don't, this is not, they can't relate to this life or these people's experience at all to enjoy it. So when people black people in particular talk about they didn't watch, friends, like we didn't see, we rarely saw them. They showed up, yeah.
Speaker 2:I didn't identify with that. Like I just yeah, that makes sense, but I did. But, my God, just different world. I love, like I probably. That's probably going to be one of the next series that I made binge because having you know, diane Carroll as Whitney Whitney, excuse me, whitney Jasmine Guy's mom and Pala Belle being Duane mom.
Speaker 1:Duane, Clearton, Duane.
Speaker 2:Yes, padeem Hardison's mom, that was just. And then remember she was going to marry the senator by Byron and Padeem or Duane rushed in and the mother and Diane Carroll was just like just that, do you?
Speaker 1:remember I was like, nah, that's extreme, just that. So, yes, we, that show was phenomenal. Speaking of Jasmine Guy, she just won an Emmy the other night. What for her? And I think it may be her first. I think it may be her first, congratulations to her. Congratulations Well overdue, well deserved. Yes.
Speaker 2:I saw a clip. It was her first one because her and Padeem Hardison was on the Brex Club and I didn't see the whole thing. But when I was scrolling on Instagram she was saying that was her first one. But she also said how she has always been a friend of Lisa Bonet's. Yes, so you know. Of course she was fired because she was pregnant.
Speaker 1:And let's say that she was fired because she was pregnant, but she was also married at the time.
Speaker 2:She was, they did not want the character of Denise to be pregnant.
Speaker 2:Because she was supposed to be, you know, college age. So but she but Whitley said that, or Jasmine Guy, I should say, said that it wasn't so much Bill. But I don't think the network, I mean she heard rummins of Bill but the network just did not want to have someone who physically was pregnant on the show at that time. But I just thought that show that was such a clip. And Mr Gaines, I mean, you know, even though he played a small role, he was very pivotal in different world. Mr Gaines, the cafeteria manager, I mean it was just, it was just great, it was just great. But I definitely want to talk about the movie thing next time. But did you see this? I just want to ask you, did you see this? It just came out this morning, I think girl Michael Strayhan's daughter revealed that she had brain tumor.
Speaker 1:Yes, eric was telling me about that. I didn't see it, but he did share that.
Speaker 2:Well, yeah. So you know, keep them in a lot of layers. It made me think about, you know, my mind draws a blank today. Chat with Bozeman. You know how people were saying about oh, he looked and how they were questioning you know what. Where's Michael? Did he get fired? Is he quitting? You know, because there was a point where he had taken us a badical and you know it was questions of where he was. But you just that just goes to show you. Obviously he was dealing with his daughter. You just never know what people are going through and you can make these, these assumptions and all they probably did, and you don't even know the man was dealing with something that was very traumatic in his family. So people just need to be careful what they say, because you never know what's going on in a person's life Like that. Yes, I just thought that was sad. I saw that come across my phone this morning. I was like, oh, so young because she's 19.
Speaker 1:Oh, so young. Oh yes, we're definitely thinking about that family brand for that family and so many more. There's so much happening in this world. Just be kind to one another, please just be kind. Yeah so, we, we, we've reached a point, y'all and we can.
Speaker 2:Yeah so you know I actually was thinking about something but I won't mention it. I won't mention it. I just you know how a lot of things just go on in the brain of Lenny, yeah, and. But you know what I enjoyed? I enjoyed the picture that you posted, that were initially in our group chat April was a group chat, the literal group chat. I just, little Catherine Casey, posted the picture of you and her, yeah, in high school wearing the.
Speaker 1:American Eagle Apparel. It was not American Eagle Apparel at the time, it was just our regular weird denim clothes. It wasn't weird because the thing is, you saw the same outfits in American and hilarious wearing them and I'm sure, if you haven't seen that post, we're wearing them in the 90s, in 1997, as part of our senior picture fashion shoot.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I loved it, but what I was thinking about when I was at that pause, I was thinking about that and was thinking about this the documentary on apriconberry and fish.
Speaker 1:Did you see that? I saw a trailer for that, but I didn't see it.
Speaker 2:It actually was just how they didn't want certain people to shop there, and I tell you people are weird.
Speaker 1:I would have been certain people with my butt and my thighs, I'm sure.
Speaker 2:Well, I could not get a cat and so probably still can't get a cat in Because it's not made for, you know, people with hips, curves. So you know it is what it is, but that's that. That's actually. I was thinking about the picture, I was thinking about that. But yeah, guys, so that's it.
Speaker 1:So let's talk about it, because we asked where we will be sitting here talking all day long, because we will find something that trutters. One thought of it would be a good thing Listeners would enjoy that.
Speaker 2:They like to hear our shenanigans they do but I honestly cannot wait until we talk about the movies that hit different as an adult, like that's going to be. That's going to be a hot topic.
Speaker 1:And I want you to get prepared. So just some of them. I want you all to think about Love Jones, love and basketball. Baby boy fools, rush in, think about some of those. Be ready to add your own to the list, because we're going to ask you all on social media before we talk about this.
Speaker 2:I have my hand up, what do? You want to say I have a question. Fool's in love. Maybe I should know if I've ever heard oh, fools rush in no. No, you never heard of it, like never Fool's. First when I saw it I thought it was. Why do fools fall in love with Frankie Lyman?
Speaker 1:No, they hit different too. We can add that to the list. Fool's rush in is with Selma Hayek and Matthew Perry, and it is one of my favorite movies and of course I've been thinking about it and watching it again because Matthew Perry got arrested, so recently passed, and they meet on a one night stand. She shows up at his house pregnant and then they decide they should marry, having at that point not even knowing each other's last names, I guess technically she shows up as a job and then like but, and then hilarity at some points ensue. But it's a. I thought it was so cute and romantic Many moons ago and now I'm like what the heck?
Speaker 2:Well, I mean, I need to tune into that because I've never, never, heard of the movie. Yes, please do watch it. Oh, ok, well, you know, she, she Sam Hayek. He's married to the gentleman who the Moe, or Moe as some people call it, oh, and.
Speaker 1:I didn't see it. I know what he did. They look.
Speaker 2:He's like the CEO of Moe Shondon and Hennessy. Yes, so you know, she making that, he make that bread that. You know I was driving, I was at my house for a brunch and we were talking about something and my brain just went off into something. I was like speaking out, she was like in that 80D I'm like I know.
Speaker 1:And that's more like a squirrel dog with a squirrel. What do you mean? You see something, your attention is automatically there versus yes, actual yes, yes.
Speaker 2:Thinking last night. How many were? How many words do we have for the word money? Brad, cheta, scrillard, benji's I was thinking about that last night.
